at last, the wait is over! me and kelsey’s garageband band’s first single is OUT.

as always, the sunny weather is inspiring me and making spirits bright. and i’m out of work again (this time by choice), leaving me to happily pinwheel through summer like a gypsy poet. things i have been up to lately:

- cutting up / sewing old shirts and clothes into new, wonderful things. also ravaging the local thrift stores for fascinating tidbits. recent scores: fleetwood mac’s “rumors” on vinyl, a badass camo print vest, and a very helpful book called “party like a rockstar: even when you’re poor as dirt”

- assembling my own darkroom, starting with a bunch of equipment i found at the thrift shop for cheapcheapcheap. i just need to buy some developer and i’ll be all set to make my own prints! how i’ve missed you, chemical fingers and red bulbs

- making yummy chocolate covered strawberries, avocado salads, quesadillas. i’m all about the low-effort, high-reward snacking

- packing; i’m moving half of my stuff to my mum’s new house in nanaimo and half of it to wherever i’ll be living this fall (vancouver most likely)

- driving lessons. GETTIN ER DONE

- reading, mostly about rock stars in the 60’s (keith richard’s autobiography & pamela de barres’ juicy “i’m with the band: tales of a groupie”, which actually intersect at certain places concerning certain people -cough- she slept with mick jagger -cough-). also tried reading “anastasia”, which was recommended to me by a very groovy older couple who used to frequent the video store i worked at, but i had to put it down after a couple of chapters because i actually found it appallingly sexist and narrow-minded. buried within the flowery hippie-dippie language were some rather concrete bottom lines, such as that sex is only to be between a man and woman, and only for the purpose of conceiving a child. and don’t even get me started on how manic pixie dream girl the character of anastasia is.

- watching parks and recreation, my new favourite show (leslie knope reminds me oh so much of my mother, in a hilarious way)

- chillaxin in the sun with me fabulous mates

so that’s my may in a nutshell. looking forward to a june full of more of the same; plus more art, adventure, friends, camping, mind expansion, spliffs, soul music, all-nighters, and who knows, maybe some wonderous, yummy new people in my life (yes please)

some art i did for kelsey and i’s AMAZING garageband band.
